Deductive vs Inductive Reasoning
Deduction and induction are the two basic directions of reasoning. Knowing which one an argument uses tells you how much confidence its conclusion actually earns.

- Is one better than the other?
- No — they do different jobs. Deduction gives certainty within a set of premises; induction lets you learn general truths from evidence. Science and everyday judgment rely heavily on induction.
- Can a valid argument still be wrong?
- Yes. A deductive argument can be valid — the logic holds — yet reach a false conclusion because a premise is false. Validity is about structure; truth also needs true premises.
