The big idea
🗓️
Plan for the week you will actually have
Most plans fail because they were built for an ideal week that never arrives.
Learning How to Learn · Lesson 5
Most plans fail because they were built for an ideal week that never arrives.
A study session that uses what the evidence supports.
Steps 1 and 4 are the ones skipped and the ones doing most of the work.
Week 1 encode each topic. Week 2 mixed retrieval, noting the weakest. Week 3 mixed practice with 60% of time on the weakest two. Week 4 timed practice, light review at the end.
No rereading, no all-day topic blocks, no all-nighter — and one session a week left deliberately empty.
Common misconception
Detailed colour-coded schedules correlate with abandonment. Sophistication belongs in the sessions, not the spreadsheet.
