- How do I calculate a tip?
- Multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100. A 20% tip on a $60 bill is 60 × 20 ÷ 100 = $12, for a $72 total. This tool does it as you type and splits the total between any number of people.
- How much should I tip?
- In the US, 15–20% for table service is typical, with 20%+ for great service. Customs vary by country and setting, and some bills already include a service charge — worth checking before adding more.
- Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
- Either is common; tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is slightly more precise, but many people just use the total for simplicity. On a normal bill the difference is small.
